UK Plastics Pact

Birds Eye supports the UK Plastics Pact

Frozen naturally plays a positive role in reducing food waste yet the food industry has a part to play in reducing packaging waste. Within the frozen industry, Birds Eye is acting to reduce the impact of plastic on the environment by committing to the UK Plastics Pact.

The UK Plastics Pact initiative fits naturally with Birds Eye's own corporate and social responsibility strategy.

The initiative is unique because it unites governments, local authorities, NGOs and businesses involved in producing, selling, collecting and reprocessing plastic, to deliver ambitious targets for change by 2025.

What is the UK Plastics Pact?

Plastic plays a huge role in our UK economy, but the current system has negative consequences for the environment and is not resource efficient. We need to move towards a circular system where we keep plastic in the economy and out of the natural environment.

The UK Plastics Pact is a trailblazing, collaborative initiative, led by WRAP and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, which aims to create a circular economy for plastics and ensure that plastics do not end up in the environment.

By 2025, Birds Eye are committed to supporting the UK Plastics Pact targets

100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable.

70% of plastic packaging effectively recycled or composted.

30% average recycled content across all plastic packaging.

• Eliminating problematic or unnecessary single-use packaging through redesign, innovation or alternative (reuse) delivery models.
